Away for Christmas? Benefits of Home Control

If you are like our clients and travel frequently, its important that you use home control to manage your security and run you home effectively whilst away, perhaps for Christmas, holiday or work, making modifications to take into account the change in weather, security as well as be warm and ready for your return.

The build phase

Our clients seized an unusual opportunity to have a brand-new penthouse built on the top of a commercial building that was being renovated on a leafy avenue in the centre of Exeter. We were fortunate to be involved prior to the build phase, so we were able to design and develop schematics that reflected the synergy of the client’s wishes with the solutions offered by Intelligent Abodes Ltd. The clients were looking for a complete home automated solution – smart lighting control, automated blinds, smart audio systems, network solutions, HVAC and security; consequently, it was imperative that the lighting and blind solution integrated well with other elements including the Coolmaster HVAC system and the home control solution, Control 4.

Bringing together lighting, blinds and security

Heating and cooling was an important aspect for the Penthouse as there was a significant amount of glass windows and doors, so the outdoor weather makes a big difference to the internal comfort. They wanted a system that responded intuitively to maintain a constant temperature, regardless of the weather. The benefit of the heating app is that it manages the system for them – modifying the temperature according to their needs, whether they are home or away. The heating/cooling system combined with the performance fabrics that we used on the roller blinds effectively manages the temperature and the glare in the penthouse.

Controlling the heating and cooling when away

Powering up, ready for your return

Prior to returning home they use the home control app to initiate the heating system so that it is cosy for their return. To conserve energy, they ‘power down’ the unused equipment, such as music and TV, and then as they depart for home, they use the app to ‘power everything up’ so it is ready for use on their return. They have found the home control app has allowed them to manage their home in ways they never imagined, whether home or away, keeping their home safe and efficient.
