Karen Chugg, Owner and Designer talks to Devon Life Magazine

We design, supply & install smart home automation solutions, so we bring the tech to people’s homes to make life more simple and fun! Having trained, earlier in my career, as a psychotherapist I am passionate about designing solutions to meet the needs of our clients.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

I am particularly attracted to lighting, collecting seeds of inspiration everywhere and being aware of how that makes me feel. Lighting in our homes has become an art, some fittings are sculptures within their own right, and now with high tech materials, LED lighting and the clever use of natural materials, lighting is a force to be reckoned with. This combined with smart lighting control means we can create clever lighting combinations within our homes to provide the perfect balance between task and ambient lighting, allowing smooth transitions with changing requirements, showcasing our homes in ways not previously thought possible and improving well-being.

What piece of work are you most proud of?

I love it at the end of a project when clients demonstrate the favourite aspects of their smart control to me, lighting control, managing the solar gain with the automated blinds, the discreet, quality sounding music or the cinema room. Seeing them enthusiastic, smiling and managing their home with joy, means we have got it right.

What trends do you think we’re going to be seeing more of in Devon in the next year?

II think smart control is just at the start in Devon, more people are discovering the comfort and convenience that it can offer. Over the years, cars have increased the tech with automated windows, seating, integrated phone use – its time for our homes to catch up!
